UV-A lamp Technology

Introducing the Philips Long-life UV-A lamps

In close partnership with Philips, Alcochem Hygiene has developed  a range of powerful UV-A lamps, used for insect trap applications: the Long-life UV-A lamps.  These lamps are used in most of the Insect control units from the i-trap, Eco-trap and Flex-trap range

This lamp range includes 15w, 18w and 36w versions and has proven to be highly reliable, deliver high performance over time, be the most environmental solution on the market and allow best in class maintenance planning thanks to its long life time as is shown in the diagram.

The advantages that the Longlife UV-A lamp offer:

UV-A output after 1 year

Over 40% more UV-A power than traditional UV-A lamps offer after a period of 1 year. (Over 85% more UV-A output compared to the standard lamps)

UV-A output after 2 years

Over 100% more UV-A power than traditional UV-A lamps offer after a period of 2 years

Cost of ownership

Lamp replacement needs to happen once every two years, which will reduce the handling and replacement costs

RoHS complaint(*)

According RoHS the lamp can hold 5mg of Hg, but the Long-life lamps use only 3mg of Hg. A saving of  60% on the use of mercury, which results in a significant environmental advantage.

Environment

The Long-life UV-A lamp is produced, with 100% “lead – free” glass and without the use of chemical. (“water-based process”)

Reliability

The lamp is produced in one of the most advanced lamp production facilities in Europe. Lamp reliability and stability are extremely high. This reduces costs of ownership as it minimises lamp failure

Recycling costs

Lamps needs to be disposed of only once every 2 years

Quality

The most stringent quality norms are produced and maintained

Manufacturing location

Made in Europe

(*) RoHS: European norm, Restriction of Hazardous Substances, which has become effective from 1st of July 2006

Lamp coating technology

Lamps used in areas were food consumption, food production or preparation takes place need to be executed in such a way that consequences from a possible glass breakage are safely addressed. Glass fragment may never enter into food products. The same standard is commonly used in industries, who also

consider glass breakage as a unacceptable risk factor: pharmaceutics, cosmetics and many other industries. For this reason the UV-A lamps are executed with a special sleeve, which is produced from UV-A transparent material: the so-called shatterproof coating.

The shatterproof material used is very strong, durable and has a high UV-A transparency rate.
It can fulfil the related national standard BS 6062 and DIN 52290:

1) 30.000 hours lifetime.

2) Ensures that at a lamp drop from 5 meters, the glass fragments will be retained in the sleeve.

3) More than 95% transparent for UV-A light.

4) Melting point over 280 Celsius degree.
